It is all very well cramming our minds full of inspiration messages so we can find success in our lives, but it is what we do every day that determines whether we find the life we want or not.

We can read all the words of motivation we want but if we do not wake up in the morning and start taking action then it is all wasted. For this reason, I believe our early morning routines are essential to self-development.

What we do as soon as we awake in the morning sets the mood for the whole day. Our minds wake up ready for suggestion so I feel we have an opportunity every day to set ourselves up for success.

Author James Allen was a great believer in getting the start of the day right. In his collection of essays entitled ‘Byways of Blessedness’, Allen wrote: “You will find that much happiness or unhappiness follows upon the right or wrong beginning of the day, and that, when every day is wisely begun, happy and harmonious sequences will mark its course, and life in its totality will not fall far short of the ideal blessedness.”

We all react in different ways to the first hours of the day but I believe there are some words of motivation and general guidelines to help you set your mood for the day ahead.

1. Get enough sleep.

Logically your routine the night before will help how you wake up the next day. You can prepare for a good day by getting a full nights sleep.

It is always worth getting to bed a little earlier to ensure you get the relaxed sleep your body demands. As you rest, your body repairs itself and any growing takes place so treat yourself to a good sleep.

In general terms it is worth having a relaxing warm bath before bed. Read a good book: avoid watching television or using the computer too close to your bedtime as this will stimulate your mind too much. Listen to relaxing music as you climb into bed too: this will also help your mind wind down. Hearing words of motivation at this time will also help.

If you need to get up earlier in the morning, go to bed sooner.

2. Set your mind straight.

As your mind is receptive first thing, take advantage, get out of bed and spend a few minutes in quiet thought. Perhaps read a few words of motivation from a book and meditate for a while. This would be a great time to practise visualizing a successful day and the life you want to achieve; repeating words of motivation and affirmation early in the morning also have the most impact.

Some authors suggest spending time listing the things in life for which you feel gratitude, such as health and family, so this would be a great time to do this too.

3. Exercise.

In some cities, the sight of individuals practising Tai Chi early morning in the park is quite common; gentle exercise is a great way to loosen up the body (especially if you are older) and it make you feel good and ready to face the day. There is also a certain smug feeling that feeling healthy first thing gives you!

The type of exercise you do is entirely up to you but Tai Chi and Yoga are popular. Teachers of these two disciplines tell us that a set of morning exercises will wake you up and prepare you like nothing else. Another favourite is a short run.

But my personal choice is to go for a cycle ride and, about halfway round, stop in a peaceful green place and practice a series of Tai Chi exercises. Perfect.

4. Breakfast.

So many of us are in such a rush to get out of the door in the morning that we skip breakfast altogether. And yet that first meal is as important as any words of motivation.

First thing in the morning your body is like a hedgehog coming out of hibernation: all the growing and repairs have taken place and now you need nutrition to face the day ahead. Eating a good meal now provides the energy you need.

Studies show those who eat a good breakfast are less prone to conditions related to obesity and have improved mental functions throughout the day.

5. Fresh Air.

Getting outside in all weathers in the morning helps your feeling of well being.

Taking your exercise outside gives you the opportunity to reflect on the words of motivation you may have already read. In any case, particularly if you can get out into a natural environment, a few minutes in the fresh air outside will help your well being: sufferers of depression are often encouraged to get out and experience the world around them. This can be especially beneficial if you spend most of your time indoors during the day.

The ideal situation is cycling or walking to work when you can get fresh air, exercise and tranquil time before you start your day.

At one stage I was working shifts that meant I had to start in an office around dawn. I was very fortunate to cycle to work across fields and a nature reserve and witness the beauty of the sun rising. It made my day so much better.

Each person will find a different morning routine will suit them: nonetheless the above pointers will help find the right way.

Experiment with what works best for you and, once you find the ideal morning start, use it every morning. You will find it will set you up for the day as much as any words of motivation.

And you will feel happier, be healthier and perform better. The life you dream about is more likely to be yours as a result.

Words For Motivation From Jim Rohn

There are a great many authors and speakers in the world who can provide the words of motivation we need to improve our lives. One of the greatest providers of inspiration messages however was Jim Rohn.

Born in Washington State, USA, on 17 September 1930, Emanuel James Rohn spent most of his younger years living on his parents’ farm in Idaho. After school, he went to college for 18 months but, full of youthful over-confidence, he left to claim (as he put it in his classic book, ‘Seven Strategies for Wealth and Happiness’) “a good-sized chunk of the American dream.”

He admitted he made a great many mistakes in those early years. He found himself a job as a stock clerk for Sears but found himself struggling for money. He also got married and found himself promising his wife that the good times were just around the corner. The reality seemed to be quite different however: Rohn had now become a father and was finding his small salary stretching even further.

One day a friend suggested Jim attend a sales conference for the AbundaVita Company. One of the speakers was James Earl Shoaff, a leading distributor and entrepreneur for the company. After the seminar, the young Jim Rohn nervously introduced himself to Shoaff. “I cannot tell you what he said that evening that captivated me so, but I can still remember thinking to myself that I would give anything to be like him,” wrote Rohn.

Shoaff left AbundaVita in 1957 and started the Nutri-Bio Corporation. Jim Rohn followed him and did so well that he was a millionaire by the age of 31. Soon after Nutri-Bio went out of business and Rohn went from a $2.3 million fortune to nothing almost overnight. Soon after, Earl Shoaff died from pneumonia.

Nonetheless, Rohn had learned enough from Shoaff to be able to start over all again. “I had learned from the wisdom of his philosophy of life and his fundamentals for successful living: how to be wealthy, how to be happy.”

Having moved to Beverley Hills in California, Jim was asked by a friend to make a speech to the local Rotary club on his ‘rags to riches’ story. The talk was a massive success. From this first success, he began receiving invitations from all over the country to share his words of motivation.

Rohn was hired by the Bestline Products Company and Standard Oil to conduct motivational seminars for them and share his inspiration messages with their employees.

Around this time, a young Tony Robbins worked for and was mentored by Rohn. Robbins of course went on to be one of the most powerful motivation speakers of all. Mark Victor Hansen, Jack Canfield and Brian Tracy all credit Rohn with the words of motivation they needed to become great authors and speakers.

Jim Rohn went on to speak to more than 5 million people at seminars and to author 25 books and audio programmes. He had the skill to examine human behaviour and find the words to influence so many to improve their lives.

Sadly, in December 2009, Jim Rohn lost a battle with pulmonary fibrosis and died.

Few people can really claim to have given so many people the words of motivation to change their lives for the better. And the wonderful news is Jim Rohn’s words still do so much good in the world.

Finding Inspiration Messages in Nature

We all want to find the words of motivation to make our lives better, to achieve all we want. Sometimes however we can simply increase our stress and even damage our health by trying too hard.

In the past I have certainly beat myself up for not achieving my goals by the time limit I had set. This becomes a self-perpetuating problem and the stress it produces undoes all the good my inspiration messages have done.

When this happens we need to give ourselves time to relax and remove the stress. Success for me is improving the quality of life and not increasing unnecessary pressure.

One of the best ways I have found to take time out is to get out into a natural environment.

The modern world seems to be all about destroying the green spaces around us when they are more important than we realise. On the Prevention.com website, Emily Main reported on studies that showed people who spend more time in country areas suffered less stress. She suggests getting out more to improve the quality of our lives.

Perhaps man is still happiest in the environment from which he came. The urban lifestyle is wholly artificial and maybe there is still a part of us that yearns to be out in nature. Watching the natural world does seem to bring peace.

In another article, this time on the LATimes.com website, Kathleen Doheny writes that other studies show that even looking at pictures, listening to natural sounds and even looking at plants can relieve stress.

So the next time you feel wound-up and no words of motivation can help you relax, spend some time in or around nature and you will find the calmness you need.

Can Simple Words of Motivation Work?

We have all seen them, the motivational posters that produce snappy tag lines with inspiration messages and wonderful photographs designed to change our attitude that day. Can we honestly say these words of motivation really make a difference?

In my opinion, these messages are virtually useless on their own. After a while they just become part of the wallpaper. To work effectively they need to be part of a concerted programme of motivation.

Advertisers do not rely on their potential customers seeing one advertisement; they look for ways for people to see the message several times. Perhaps they might have several advertisements for you to see on different occasions or maybe they might use advertisements on several media. For example, a company might sponsor an event and at they will advertise in the event brochure and at various spots around the venue so that you cannot forget the company name and their product.

It is the same with words of motivation: you need to see or hear the same message several times before it starts to sink in.

The only difference between advertising and motivation is that we usually have to make the effort to look for the positive messages several times ourselves. We may read the words on a poster, in a book, online and even in affirmations but we do have to set them up ourselves.

Getting it right can pay massive dividends however.

How Can We Be Happy?

Ask a selection of people what they consider success to be and you will get a wide range of answers: they might talk about earning more money, living somewhere exotic, reaching a higher level in their company, finding the purpose of your life or perhaps spending more time with their families.

At the back of most people’s perception of success however is the idea of happiness. I think most people really want to be happy.

Happiness is a misunderstood term. How many people really understand what happiness is and how they could be happy?

Sadly this leads to many believing happiness is an impossible dream. This is such a widespread misconception that the idea of becoming happy is derided by many. Even politicians forget that the people who vote them in are looking to them to improve their lives and make them happy; in many cases they have very little idea how their policies will affect general happiness.

This is true of so many countries: including the United States of America. The American constitution even contains these words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Ah, so what the American constitution is telling us is that we cannot wait for somebody else to make us happy? Yes, that is perhaps the key to being happy. William Arthur Ward wrote: “Happiness is an inside job.”

In reality we each have to decide to be happy where we are. We can seek inspiration messages from other people to help us but in the end we are responsible for our own happiness.

Ironically, when you change the way you see your life, the world around you will seem to change for the better too.

To be happy we simply have to accept what we cannot change and change for the better anything we can influence in our lives. In reality money has very little to do with your happiness: if you are rich, you can be happy or miserable.

Happy people are grateful for the life they have and the blessings they have. Of course, you may feel that the blessings are hard to find but, believe me, they are there.

I used to beat myself up about not having enough money until I realised I did have a great relationship with my partner, my family and my friends and that was more important. I also forced myself to get out into the surrounding countryside where I understood how lucky I was to be able to do so. There is always something there that will give you the inspiration messages to make you happy. You just need to get out and look.

Avoid criticising others or gossiping against other people. Every time you talk ill it pulls you away from your own happiness and such actions somehow erode your own well being too.

James Allen wrote this in his book, ‘Above Life’s Turmoil’: “If you would have your home and your surroundings happy, be happy. You can transform everything around you if you will transform yourself.”

So why be happy at all?

Recent studies have shown that being happy can extend your life. Being happy reduces the stress in the body and the body’s functions work more effectively: this includes the immune system, which has been shown to operate better in happy people.

There are benefits in the wider world too. People are naturally drawn to a happy, positive person and will be positively affected. Your own self-image will be improved still further when you realise the good you are doing the people. Business or work will improve too as people will be happier to work with you, as will your personal relationships because you will be fun to be around and will be seen as more trustworthy.

Ironically, it is possible that your financial situation will improve with your attitude. James Allen believed the world waits for happy people and will reward them: “It is our cheerfulness and happiness that is needed for there is too little of that. We can give nothing better to the world than beauty of life and character.”

Resolve to be happy and you will be amazed at the results it brings.

Words of Motivation to Help Deal With Failure

If life were only about success then it would be very dull. Fortunately we will all face failure in our lives somewhere along the line. One of the key skills in life is learning how to deal with this and to find the words of motivation we need to turn the situation to our advantage.

If you have set goals in your life and have a clear vision of where you want to be, failures should never affect you. But first of all we need to understand what is failure.

If you fail to achieve your goal on the first attempt, that is not failure, it is simply a setback. You only really fail when you give up on your goals.

So you hit a setback. We need the attitude to understand that we simply need to find another way of doing things. It may simply be you have not achieved your goal in the time allotted. This could be you misunderstood how long it would take so you just reset the goal and continue on your journey.

You will always know if you have put the required effort into attaining your goals; if you feel you have done enough but have not reached where you want to be, then just keep going and the chances are you will reach your destination eventually.

If you feel you have not done enough to reach your goal then the answer is clear: immerse yourself in the drive towards your goals, pursue them with all you have and success will eventually be yours.

Some years ago a study was made of primitive tribes who practised rain dances. Scientists wanted to find out if the tradition really worked. They studied a number of tribes to see which were the most successful. One tribe recorded a phenomenal success rate and, when scientists tried to find out the reason for this, they discovered the natives simply kept dancing until it rained. It meant they could dance for months but they kept going until it rained.

If what we want in life is good enough, we will keep dancing until we succeed.

Setbacks offer us essential lessons and we need to learn from these. Understand that we need to adopt the attitude that every failed attempt is getting us closer to success.

Philip Baker puts it well in his book ‘Attitudes of Amazing Achievers’: “Life is not about what happens but what we think about what happened. It is not about how bad things are, it is about how we interpret our circumstances, and whether or not we decide to learn lessons or wallow in self-pity.”

Overcoming obstacles and setbacks and refusing to accept failure makes the final goal all the more sweet when we achieve it. In her book, ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway,’ Susan Jeffers wrote these words of motivation, “As long as you can remember that life is an ongoing process of learning, you won’t have the disgruntling sense that you haven’t made it yet. My experience of the last few years has shown me that so much of the joy in life is the challenge of figuring it all out. Nothing is as satisfying as those moments of breakthrough when you discover something about yourself and the Universe that adds another piece to the jigsaw puzzle. The joy of discovery is delicious. I know of no explorer who once having reached his or her goal has not wanted to go out and explore some more.”

Do we ever regret the things for which we worked, the things we have done, or do we regret the things we gave up on? I know I can look back on several projects I wished I had pursued and regret not doing so. Don’t put yourself in that position – don’t accept failure.

Virtually every person we can think of that has achieved major success has had to overcome setbacks and potential failure. Find the words of motivation you need and keep on driving towards your goals.

Louis Smith Gives Words of Motivation to Students

In this time of complete media coverage, world-class athletes have to learn to deal with a lot more than winning medals. For Louis Smith, silver medal winner in the 2012 Olympic gymnastics, he has had to learn to learn public speaking to share words of motivation to others.

Having also won the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing competition, Louis has some real inspiration messages to share. He has been doing just that by touring schools in Cambridgeshire, close to his hometown of Peterborough.

Talking and meeting school children can be problematic but Louis, who was awarded the MBE in the New Years honours, seemed to enjoy the experience. A hero to many, Louis started the tour by visiting and talking at the schools he attended so the experience brought back memories too.

During his visits, he passed words of motivation to many children. The purpose of the talks was to encourage children to follow him into sport but it seems he has become a hero to them and has inspired them to do better in anything they do.

Louis Smith certainly seems to be living up to the motto on his tattoo: ‘What I deserve I earn.’

Inspiration Messages: The Parkinson’s Disease Bag

A debilitating disease is hardly where you would expect someone to get inspiration messages, but that is exactly what a design student in Pune, India did.

Vidhi Bhargav had watched her father fight Parkinson’s Disease from when she was one year old. In her final year of college she was expected to come up with a new fashion design and had no hesitation choosing.

The 21 year-old student immediately set about designing a bag for sufferers of the condition so they might carry important items without dropping them. Her design incorporated all the elements required to make it useful for those who had reduced control of their hands.

She presented her idea at a Parkinson’s Disease event and it was warmly received.

It is wonderful that this enterprising person found the inspiration messages to not only develop her dream but to help other people along the way.

Inspiration Message: Reward Your Goals

We all need the inspiration messages that goals can give us but having goals alone is not going to get us where we want to be.

It is always worth tracking the progress of your goals. You should already have a list of your aims in life with a date for their achievement. Why not also make a note of when you achieve your goals? This will allow you to look back and realise just how many things you have achieved on your journey.

There are few better ways of finding inspiration messages for the future.

While we are on the subject, don’t beat yourself up if you miss your goal on the date you have set for its completion. It is okay to complete the project a day or two or three late: what is important is that your complete it at all. The timetable set is a guide.

Actually, what is really important is what you become as you strive for that better lifestyle, but we will explore that later.

Reaching an aim your set yourself should be a big event. Why not make even achieving a small goal significant? Celebrate in some way or perhaps give yourself a reward. You deserve it. Marking the achievement of a new stage in your life will increase the inspiration messages you will get from it.

Giving yourself a reward will increase the positive feeling you will get from reaching your goal. As you write down the goals you want to achieve, also record what reward you will have when you get there.

Appropriate rewards for each stage of achievement will be entirely up to you. They must be significant enough and enjoyable enough to feel like real celebrations when you arrive. Perhaps you might have a trip to the cinema, buy the DVD or download of a movie you have wanted to see, a meal in a restaurant or even just a relaxing evening at home. Whatever you choose, your rewards should tell you that you have achieved something and you deserve a treat.

Because you do.

A word of warning however: make the reward appropriate to the goal. Never celebrate with something that is way beyond what you can afford or the glow of success will be tainted by the guilt of spending too much money. But, whatever rewards you do give yourself, make sure they add to the enjoyment of the goal-achieving process: have fun.

Delayed gratification is an important concept here. If you have set a reward for achieving a goal, do not give yourself that reward until you have reached that goal. Doing anything else will devalue the achievement and reduce the inspiration messages you receive. If you want to buy yourself a new cooker when you get a promotion, for example, don’t do it until you receive your first increased pay cheque.

Giving yourself fun rewards will make the whole process of achieving goals that much more enjoyable. Even if the goal is not that exciting (such as doing the filing), having an enjoyable reward will make reaching it that much more sweet.

As Jim Rohn put it in his book, ‘Seven Strategies for Wealth and Happiness,’ “Part of the fun of having a list (of goals) is the ability to check things off. And when you check something off as completed, take time to celebrate your achievement.”

Most companies, schools, colleges and other public bodies recognise the worth of rewarding success, whether by awards, promotion or other means, so it makes sense for us to adopt the same approach to our own achievements. Apart from that, if your rewards or celebrations involve other people, they will take more of an interest in what you are doing and may well become your cheerleaders.

Setting and achieving goals is mean to be a positive and enjoyable process, full of inspiration messages to help you keep up the momentum: giving yourself rewards at each stage will ensure this.

Molly Burke Provides Inspiration Messages

School bullies have been responsible for breaking quite a few of their victims but some who have been bullied have turned their tormentors words into words of motivation.

Molly Burke of Ontario, Canada was four years old when she was diagnosed with retinitis pigments, which lead to a total loss of vision in a matter of years. Eventually she had to use a white stick and then was assigned a guide dog. In the meantime the bullying began and one child even suggested Molly kill herself. She did consider ending her own life, suffered depression and started to cut herself.

One day she fell and broke her ankle. She had to use crutches to get around and so was unable to take the dog with her. Other school girls lead her to a nearby forest, took away and smashed her crutches and ran away laughing.

Molly changed schools but the bullying continued. Eventually she found the courage to talk to the principal, who alerted her family. It was then that the young schoolgirl discovered there were people in her life who loved her enough to support her and provide words of motivation for her.

This inspirational young woman is now 18 years old and is one of Canada’s most popular public speakers. She talks on behalf of the Me to We company, which provides ethical products, experiences and speakers. Molly spreads words of motivation around schools across Canada, particularly to combat the bullying too many children experience.

Many of us could learn so much from such an inspirational young woman. As she says on the Me to We website: “If I can get up every single day motivated and able to inspire just one person, then everything I’ve been through is worth it.”
